A group based livelihood project that supported 146 vulnerable refugees and host community members in Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement to build sustainable enterprises, funded by Muslim Charity UK.

The Kiryandongo Livelihood Support Project supported vulnerable refugee and host community households in Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement to move from aid dependency to self reliance. Implemented by LSSL with funding from Muslim Charity UK between May and July 2025, the project organised beneficiaries into 16 enterprise groups covering soap making, retail trade, and tailoring.

Beneficiaries were selected through a transparent, community led process with the Office of the Prime Minister and Refugee Welfare Committees, prioritising women, youth, and persons with disabilities. Each group received financial literacy training, elected its own leadership, opened a bank account, and was capitalised with a start up grant and sector specific toolkits. LSSL then provided continuous business coaching and market linkages to sustain the enterprises beyond the project period.

146 individuals supported (102 refugees and 44 host community members), 70 percent of them women. 16 enterprise groups established, with 14 fully operational within two weeks of disbursement and 13 generating positive net profits in their first quarter. 112 people trained in financial literacy and 140 in mental health awareness and conflict resolution. Participating households reported average income increases of 20 to 35 percent within the first two months. All groups opened formal bank accounts, 22 beneficiaries joined Village Savings and Loan Associations, and direct counselling reached 73 beneficiaries. Seven minor disputes were resolved through the conflict management skills gained.
