Food Distribution
On January 8, 2026, Lisa Supporting and Sustaining Lives (LSSL), in continued partnership with Muslim Charity and the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), successfully implemented the second phase of food distribution at Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement. This intervention targeted over 1,000 vulnerable households across the seventeen clusters in the settlement with a total population of 165,000 to deliver balanced nutritional support and immediate relief from hunger.
Background / Context
Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement hosts thousands of individuals uprooted by conflict in Sudan and neighboring regions. Due to cuts in World Food Programme (WFP) rations, rapid population growth, and scarce livelihood opportunities, the struggle for food remains a defining challenge
The Intervention
On January 8, 2026, LSSL, in collaboration with Muslim Charity, UNHCR, and the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), conducted its second phase of emergency food distribution
Each targeted household received a standardized package comprising:
Maize flour: 10 kg
Rice: 10 kg
Beans: 10 kg
Cooking oil: 1 litre
The distribution prioritized highly vulnerable groups, including women-headed households, elderly persons (60+), child-headed families, and persons with disabilities

Expanded Reach: Scaled up emergency food assistance to reach over 1,000 verified refugee households.
Vulnerability Prioritization: Addressed urgent nutritional and protection gaps for women-headed households (accounting for 63.9% of verified beneficiaries), older persons aged 60+ (69 individuals), child-headed households, and persons with disabilities.
Mitigated Protection Risks: Provided short-term household relief, reducing the need for negative coping mechanisms and minimizing exposure to exploitation and safety risks during food scarcity.
Strengthened Accountability: Implemented a rigorous verification process using UNHCR system-generated baseline lists cross-checked by the Settlement Commandant, RWCs, OPM, and LSSL field teams, alongside establishing an on-site complaints and feedback desk.
